I'm wearing a tie today. Not for April Fool's, traffic court, or a funeral, but because I have an interview. Technically, for the position I'm applying, wearing a tie to the interview probably isn't even necessary. It's kind of nice though, wearing a tie. Back in high school I wore a tie everyday and it wasn't that bad. Not like I had a choice, however, it was the dress code. Yet, wearing a tie has injected me with a feeling of excitement, professionalism, and the attitude that I'm on top of everything. People walk by me and probably think to themselves, why is this clown wearing a tie? Maybe they think I'm rushing a frat or going to church tonight, who knows. What I do know is that one, I wish I had some collar stays and two, I'm giving people something to stew over. By simply wearing a tie, people begin to question what's so special about this particular Wednesday that deems a tie. Without writing, asking questions, demanding answers, or catching people off guard, I got them to think. It's the power of the tie. A tie is a mysterious piece of formal paraphernalia. It's basically a thin silk sock wrapped around someones neck and it can single-handedly take an outfit from casual to formal with a few flicks of the wrist. Again, it's the power of the tie.You wear an ugly tie and you risk ruining dates, interviews, and looking like Don Cherry. You tie the knot ostentatiously big, you risk looking like an absolute fool or Kwame Kilpatrick. You wear a bow tie, well, what you risk can go unsaid, but try manhood for starters. There's a very fine line when it comes to the tie and wearing it succesfully. Some people have yet to harness the power of the tie, i.e. local news anchors, while others have mastered the art like most presidents, company CEO's, excluding Donald Trump, and really old people. It's true, really old men make every tie look good, despite the mustard and chili stains. Something about the 70+ year old man and succesfully wearing a tie go hand in hand like my blog and cliches. Moreover, the power of the tie exists and as the world seemingly collapses around us, throw on a tie, you'll feel better. Or at least look good.
